A BRIEF HISTORY OF YADAVA COLLEGE

  • The Yadava Educational Fund (Yadhavar Kalvi Nidhi) was established by a few leading service minded Yadava Community people in the year 1962.
  • The aim of the fund was to award scholarships and supply books to the deserving Yadava students.
  • The realization of the importance of the higher education for the socially and educationally backward Yadava community led to the establishment of the Yadava college in the year 1969. 
  • It was run purely on donations received from Yadava Community philanthropists all over the country.
  • Any one from Yadava Community who had subscribed a minimum Rs.250/- and above up to 1993 and Rs.500/- and above beyond 1994 can become a Life Member of the General body of the Fund.
  • The management constituted by the elected members of the general body since 1971 administers the college.
  • The college was started with two pre-university courses in a temporary building. The Tamil Nadu Government generously allotted 39 acres and 57 cents of land under Thiruppalai Panchayat limits in the year 1969.
  • In the same year a hostel building was constructed. The college started functioning in the new premises from 1970-71 academic year.
  • At present, the college is a Co-Educational institution in which more than 3500 students pursue their higher education. More than 1000 students stay in the boy's and the girl's hostels.
  • There is a separate hostel for women students in the college campus.
  • The College offers 21 under graduate courses, 10 post graduate courses, 4 Reasearch courses and 17 job oriented certificate and Diploma courses of the Madurai Kamaraj University.
  • The College also offers 17 free certificate courses and 1 Diploma courses.
  • The Department of – Tamil, Zoology and Commerce- have been elevated as Centre for Higher Research and offer Full Time as well as Part Time Ph.D programmes.
  • The department of English (Aided) has applied for Research Centre status.
  • A modern library with 56,252 volumes, an IT block and a science block with three floors depict the dedicated hard work of the managing council for the development of the college.
  • The Library is equipped with modern computer facilities with latest journals in all subjects.
  • Students of Yadava College earn name and fame to the college by participating in Sports activities at the district, Zonal and University levels and have won University Championships in games like Volley Ball, Kabadi and Athletics.
  • N. C. C was established in the year 1972 in the college. Seven units of N. S. S. successfully carry out various Extension Activities.
  • The College has been received autonomous status by the University Grants Commission on 2006 - 2007.
  • The National Assessment and Accreditation Council has Re - Accredited Yadava College and has given "A" Grade certificate during the third cycle. 
  • Madurai Kamaraj University has adjudicated the college and had given the "Best College Award" thrice.
  • The College wishes the young and youth to use this campus for their upliftment.
